CLIMATE ChANGE BOOK

Screen Print Heading, Page 1 and 2. 170gsm paper.

For this project at Nottingham University, I designed a twelve double-page spread type book that is about the issue of Climate Change. The article provided for this project stated that we have twelve years to keep temperatures from increasing more  than 1.5 degrees Celsius or otherwise the effects would be catastrophic. This concept is carried throughout the book.
I have emphasised the main points of the article in each double page spread. The seriousness and urgency of the issue is visually depicted through type and the choice of materials. This included a muted colour palette with a dark red as the stand out colour. I used the French fold technique so the red could be used as another subtle layer underneath the spreads. In order for it to be authentic, I used hand constructed techniques such a screen printing
and handwritten text for a number of the spreads. This draws on the protest methods of many social movements over time. The paper stock that I used varies throughout the book. The stock becomes thinner and more fragile as it reaches the end of
the book. I have also included deliberate flaws to the latter pages such as ripping and smudging ink. The reason for this is that I want the audience to feel as time goes on, the issue will become more dire if we do not act now.
